A Brief History

From Desert to Dazzle

What is now one of the world's most spectacular urban waterfronts was once open desert. Dubai Marina's story is one of extraordinary ambition and engineering brilliance.

1990s

The Vision

Conceptualised by HOK Canada and developed by Emaar Properties, inspired by Vancouver's Concord Pacific Place along False Creek.

2003

Construction Begins

A 3-kilometre artificial canal was excavated from the desert and filled with water from the Arabian Gulf — one of the most ambitious urban engineering projects ever undertaken.

2008

Grand Opening

Dubai Marina officially opens, quickly evolving into a "city within a city" housing tens of thousands of residents and becoming a global tourism icon.

Best Time to Visit

November to March offers the most pleasant weather (20–28°C) for outdoor activities. During summer, focus on indoor attractions or visit during cooler mornings and evenings.

Getting Around

Dubai Marina is excellently connected via the Dubai Metro (Red Line), Dubai Tram, and ride-hailing apps. Most attractions are within walking distance of Ciel.

Dress Code

Smart casual is standard for restaurants and lounges. Beachwear is welcome at beach clubs and JBR, but cover up when entering malls and indoor venues.
